Job Description:

Working under the general supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will lead/participate in daily unit projects and will be required to operate equipment identified as Category 2 with a Class B drivers license, and with Class A drivers license, will operate Category 1 equipment used by the assigned unit.

The incumbent will direct and work with a crew pruning, removing brush, roadside mowing, applying fertilizer and chemicals, planting, and removing litter. Duties will include picking up and supervising public service workers while on litter, weeding, pruning, removing brush, and planting work detail. Incumbent will ensure work habits follow Code of Safe Operating Practices & Chapter 8. Candidate will also provide for safety of crew and traveling public, recognize deficiencies/hazards within right-of-way and respond to questions from public regarding maintenance policies/procedures.

Incumbent is required to work in a wide range of conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, sleet, and/or snow. During winter months, workweek is normally five 8-hour days but may be scheduled to work nights with irregular days off; may be required to work overtime including weekends/holidays due to storms, emergencies, or special projects.

You must be a current state employee with transfer eligibility, be on an eligibility list for the classification, or have reinstatement rights to be considered for this position.
