The reporting location for this position is Headquarters in Sacramento. This position will work under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Director, Administrative Services. The incumbent will serve as the Department’s Training Officer (DTO) and will be responsible for the management of the education and training program of the Department.
The breadth and complexity of the Department’s training program requires strong administrative and program development expertise. The Department’s Training Section is responsible for the coordination, design and delivery of classes to a workforce spread throughout the State that includes a wide range of professional, analytical, technical and administrative staff. The Department is moving towards a new operating model with more partnership agreements, revenue generating activities and a growing emphasis on leadership development. The DTO position will be responsible for developing a learning program in support of this model and will require a person with strong program and policy development and project management skills.
The Training Section coordinates the Cadet Academy and ensures compliance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission requirements for almost 600 employees; however the DTO position is also responsible for the training of over 1800 permanent and 1000 seasonal non-peace officer employees in DPR.
The DTO is a key team player in the Administrative Services Division. Coordination with other Staff Services Managers in Personnel, Business Management, and Budgets is essential for the training program to be efficient and effective.
The DTO will also be a representative of the Department in meetings with multiple stakeholders and must have the knowledge and background to engage with higher education professionals.
