Under the general supervision of the Supervising Tax Auditor II, the Business Specialist I is responsible for reviewing the work of professional staff and complex cases, as well as working independently and completing special projects of the most complex nature and assisting staff at all levels in the Unit. The incumbent acts as a Lead on large complex projects and assumes responsibility for completion of work. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating issues, law and information maintained in the System. The Business Taxes Specialist I is responsible for answering questions of management, other BOE units, local jurisdictions and their representatives, and other State agencies.
Candidates must possess the knowledge of local & district tax laws & have ability to evaluate work quality effectively. Ability to apply provisions of sales & use tax laws (including local & district tax) & related legal opinions, court decisions, rules & regulations. Strong analytical skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to work with staff at all levels to assist and provide guidance. Excellent oral & written communications skills. Programming knowledge of Access is strongly desired. Supplemental Questions must be answered to be considered. The position is located in a high-rise building. 1. Please describe your experience that qualifies you for this BTS I position, including experience in selection of assignments for subordinate staff and reviewing assignments completed by subordinate staff.
2. Please describe your experience specifically as it relates to knowledge of the sales and use tax law and local and district taxes. Specifically explain your experiences in explaining the local and district tax laws to taxpayers and the requirements of each. Include your experience working with local jurisdictions and consultants.
3. Please describe your experience using Access databases as well as developing Access databases and include specific examples of your experience with each.
