Under the general supervision of the Data Processing Manager II (DPM II), the Associate Information Systems Analyst (AISA) (Specialist) serves as the Associate Tester for all the application development initiatives for California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS), Health Care Information Solutions (HCIS). Works independently on application testing efforts using automated testing tools as well as manual testing techniques. Provides analytical support for testing web applications and statewide enterprise application development efforts that may include planning, execution, and documentation of testing efforts.

40% - Executes manual as well as automated test cases; creates test log and documents defects; documents test results summary to be shared with others and incorporate reviews comments; writes test documentation as part of the application release process. Prepares and validates test data using application utilities; supports user acceptance testing; reviews and maintains testing artifacts. Reviews system requirements and design for testability; writes test cases for manual as well as automated testing; develops traceability matrix to make sure all the testable requirements are addressed.

30% - Provides time estimates for testing efforts; reports testing progress to the team lead and management; communicates any risks and issues that may impact schedule on a timely basis. Follows CCHCS testing methodology; participates in all the phases of application testing by working closely with the development team, vendors, contractors and other units within and outside of CCHCS. Sets up, maintains and documents the testing environment including system configuration, hardware inventory and software licensing; documents any policies, processes, procedures and standards; ensures compliance with departmental and statewide mandates, and industry best practices.

20% - Writes training manuals; conducts training sessions; prepare training facilities and test environments; provides support to the organization in the development of Feasibility Study Reports (FSR), Request For Offers (RFO)/ Proposal (RFP) or other types of procurements.

10% - Perform other related duties as required; travel as needed.

Knowledge of: Principles of public administration, organization, and management; information technology systems equipment, software, and practices; analytical techniques; technical report writing.

Ability to: Analyze information and situations, identify and solve problems, reason logically, and draw valid conclusions; develop effective solutions; apply creative thinking in the design of methods of processing information with information technology systems; monitor and resolve problems with information technology systems hardware, software, and processes; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; communicate effectively.


Knowledge of: This is a journey level position and the AISA (Spec) must have basic knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); IEEE standards on software testing; Automated Testing Tools; n-tier distributed and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA); Open System Interconnection (OSI) Model and its layers and levels; the State IT Governance Policies and Security Standards per the State Administrative Manual (SAM).

Experience in: Information technology application programming, Microsoft Visual Studio Test Professional, HP Load Runner, HP Unified Functional Testing, VB Script, JavaScript, Jscript, ASP.NET, .Net Frameworks, C#, ANSI C, JAVA, AJAX TrueClient, HTML, XHTML, DHTML, XML, SSIS packages, SSRS, Web Services, MS SQL Server, SharePoint, MS IIS, MS TFS, ANSI SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, software testing methodology and best practices; software development life cycle (SDLC); test plan, test design, test case specification (manual as well as automated) and test results summary documentation.

Ability to: Develop test plan, test design, test case specification (manual as well as automated), test results summary; execute test cases and analyze results, write SQL Queries, reason logically and creatively, identify problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop effective solutions; apply creative thinking in development of test plan, test design, test data and test case specifications; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; communicate effectively; prepare effective reports; use Team Foundation Server (TFS), SharePoint, MS office suite.

Persons appointed to this position must be reasonably expected to exert up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
