The reporting location for this position is the Oceano Dunes Ranger Station in Oceano. This position will work under the direction of the Chief Ranger. This position is responsible for leading and coordinating roles in the district’s aquatic safety field operations. The aquatic operation includes staff consisting of two seasonal Lifeguard II positions and twelve seasonal Lifeguard I positions and covers 6 ½ miles of coastline at Pismo State Beach and Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA). The incumbent will work cooperatively with other State Park Peace Officer Rangers and Lifeguards who are collectively responsible for the visitor services operation of the Oceano Dunes SVRA and Pismo State Beach. A variety of public safety equipment including: Sand Rail, Side x Side, ATV, Hummer, Lifeguard towers, and PWC’s are employed while on patrol in the Parks, Ecological Preserves, and Beaches of the District. Opportunities to gain experience in Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Response, Volunteer coordination, interpretation and education programs, and community outreach are available. Management’s commitment to 4/10’s scheduling, up to date training and equipment, and an outstanding relationship with allied agencies allow the incumbent to successfully meet the challenges of the position.
