Under the direction of the CDE Press Managing Editor, the Graphic Designer III works independently but collaboratively with CDE divisions, program units, supervisors, and CDE Press staff to design and produce materials and publications with captivating aesthetics, clarity, and accuracy for print, online publishing, multimedia, and other media. The incumbent takes projects from conception to completion, which includes working with the printer to ensure timely delivery of materials and making items Web accessible for online posting. The Graphic Designer meets with clients and editors regularly to ensure that projects are meeting expectations and high editorial standards. The Graphic Designer independently comes up with creative ideas and solid plans for producing these varied materials and deftly uses Adobe Creative Suite 5 applications InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to produce skillfully designed products. The incumbent is an expert in design and printing options and can easily provide alternative plans to meet budget and time constraints. The Designer must understand the interplay of text with images and design to creatively present accurate and clear information. The incumbent will be responsible for the highest-quality aesthetics while often working under strict time frames and budgets. The position assists Associate Editors with Microsoft word-processing functions, which include tracking changes in documents and managing electronic and hard-copy files. The Designer must consistently and accurately track time spent on jobs for billing purposes and update reports to record the progress of jobs.
Proficiency working with the Mac platform and the Adobe Creative Suite 5, especially the applications InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
Talent for creating and producing materials and publications with the highest level of aesthetics, intense attention to detail, and consistent accuracy for print and Web
Agility in creating original conceptual designs and illustrations for print and Web media
Proficiency in making publications into Web-accessible files, creating fillable forms using Adobe Acrobat, and converting documents to e-pub book formats
Expertise in working with printers and vendors and preparing print ready files
Skill in working with interactive and multimedia formats
Aptitude in working with Microsoft Word and Excel files
Ability to easily work independently as well as in a team
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
