The Gasoline Off-Road Inventory Section of the Mobile Source Analysis Branch assesses off-road equipment test data, activity, and emission factors to develop emissions inventory estimates and models. Current section projects are focusing on development of the new emissions models and programming platforms for pleasure craft and recreational vehicles. Mid-term projects include developing new emission models for lawn and garden equipment and portable fuel containers. Long term projects are focused on continuous improvement of these models, updating evaporative emission factors, population growth, and activity. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong work ethic, a commitment to the quality of work products, and a drive to achieve the goals of our team.
Under close supervision of the Section Manager, the Incumbent will assist in developing and updating mobile source emissions inventory models and emissions assessments for planning and regulatory development. The position requires close interaction and teamwork with Section and Branch staff. Specific tasks may include literature review; gathering, tabulating, and analyzing a variety of off-road vehicle activity and emissions data; assisting in development emissions inventory methodologies; and preparing documentation and reports.
The successful candidate for this position will be enthusiastic and demonstrate initiative, have excellent written and oral communication skills, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to work effectively with other staff. Experience in mobile source emissions inventories is preferred, but not necessary. The candidate must be self-motivated and dependable. Expertise in SQL database, programming (Visual Basic, Perl, Python) and statistics is highly desirable, as is experience in Excel and/or Access. Qualified Air Resources Tecnician I/IIs are encouraged to apply. Enrollment in a college curriculum leading to a bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering is highly desirable.
