There is an opening at the Attorney IV level for a Workers’ Compensation litigation position in the Glendale State Contracts Legal office. The Attorney IV will be among the most experienced and highest achieving attorneys and will personally handle the most sensitive, difficult, and complex** legal cases. This position is intended to defend Workers’ Compensation cases filed against State agencies and other employers under the various State Contracts. The position could also defend Workers’ Compensation cases filed against State Fund insured employers. **The Staff Counsel IV will primarily handle the most sensitive, difficult, and complex matters which consist of features including but not limited to the following: • Very high impact to the California business environment • High to very high political and media impact, implications or sensitivity • Handles the majority of individual cases with the highest potential exposure to State Fund • Handles the majority of lien consolidation cases with the highest potential value • Potential to appear in multiple forums, jurisdictions, issues, “steps” or processes • Novelty and high industry focus on legal issue(s) involved • Act as lead on “project” type work where cases have been consolidated and coordination of multiple • parties/issues is necessary • Policy-making process reflecting changes in laws which have significant impact to the organization • and/or the public and/or industry high impact to the California business environment • High to very high political and media impact, implications or sensitivity • Handles the majority of individual cases with the highest potential exposure to State Fund • Handles the majority of lien consolidation cases with the highest potential value • Potential to appear in multiple forums, jurisdictions, issues, “steps” or processes • Novelty and high industry focus on legal issue(s) involved • Act as lead on “project” type work where cases have been consolidated and coordination of multiple • parties/issues is necessary • Policy-making process reflecting changes in laws which have significant impact to the organization and/or the public and/or industry EQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ? Expert knowledge in workers’ compensation laws including those applicable to State employees.
