Under general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor, the Associate Tax Auditor (ATA) performs more difficult and complex audit functions including field and desk audits of sophisticated inter and intra related companies. The ATA will analyze complex business records, review taxpayer claims for refunds, correspond, and discuss the application of tax/fee laws with taxpayers, attorneys, accountants, and BOE staff. The ATA may also lead and/or train other lower level auditors, review field audit reports or petitions for redetermination and claims for refund. In addition the ATA may prepare summaries and statements of fact for use in hearings or court proceedings. The position may require up to 50% travel, both in state and out-of-state, including overnight travel. Under close supervision of the Supervising Tax Auditor, the Tax Auditor performs the least to moderately difficult field audits or examinations of fee payer’s accounts and records under the Special Taxes Audit and Carrier Division programs. Analyze business records and fee payer claims for refunds, correspond and discuss the application of tax laws with taxpayers, attorneys and accountants. This position may require up to 50% travel, both in-state and out-of-state, including overnight travel. The Tax Auditor receives a Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) total salary rate of $3262, Range A only.
