DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Education Administrator I in the Interagency-Nonpublic Schools and Agencies (IA-NP/A) Unit, the Associate Director, and the Director of the Special Education Division, and working cooperatively with program units and supervisors throughout the Department, the Education Programs Consultant works independently on the following educational program(s): Nonpublic schools and agencies. The Interagency-Nonpublic Schools and Agencies Unit is responsible for providing program guidance and planning and conducting reviews of nonpublic schools and out of state residential facilities. The consultant also serves as a program monitor, contract monitor, and engages in special projects. Travel is required.

    Plan and conduct on-site education program and residential monitoring reviews, in and out of state, as required by California Education Code sections 56366.1(e), 56366.1(i) and 56366.1(j). Focus will be on instruction and curriculum, student progress, implementation of appropriate behavior intervention techniques in the school and residential facility, rights and protections including parental involvement in the student’s education, and parent and student rights and protections.
  • Process new and annual certification packets from nonpublic schools and agencies by verifying that applicants meet minimum education program curricular, related services, licensing, and staffing requirements as required by statute and regulation for the grade levels of the students served.
  • Review, research, compile information, and write complex and sensitive reports about special education programs focusing on areas such as special education rights and protections, behavior intervention techniques, curricular programs, and education assessments.
