Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of a Tax Program Supervisor, you are the lead reviewer to a team of 5 - 8 Assessment and/or Resolution Technicians who issue assessments, refunds and resolve taxpayer correspondence for the Clerical RAR/CP2000 workloads. Utilizing CP and Fedstar II programs you review and release the work produced to ensure a high level of accuracy and compliance with the section's priorities, policy, procedure, and PIT laws. You identify additional training needs of individuals and/or team and take appropriate action. You provide input for probationary and annual performance review process. You encourage open communication to create a positive work environment. You develop new or revise procedures and provide training for the Clerical RAR/CP2000 workloads.


  • Ability to apply well-defined sections of the laws, rules and regulations administered by the Franchise Tax Board.
  • Experience with Franchise Tax Board’s audit, account resolution and transactions.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and constructive feedback, and to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, Excellent work ethic, including attendance and dependability
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive, productive environment and to work as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of TI, CP, FSII, PAWS, ADCORR, INC, ARCS, PIT account processing, LAN, and basic PC skills
  • Knowledge of the RAR and/or CP2000 semi automated and automated programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic California and Federal Personal Income Tax Laws
  • Experience working with sensitive and confidential material
  • Familiarity with California and Federal Income Tax Returns and schedules

Current state employees with status in the above classification or lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former state employees who can reinstate into this class or persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification. Candidates who have completed the most recent Tax Program Technician II exam are encouraged to apply. A training and development assignment (T & D) will also be considered. All appointments are subject to SROA/Surplus hiring provisions.
