Under the general direction of a Business Taxes Administrator I, the Tax Compliance Specialist independently performs the more complex and difficult tax compliance and collection work and is responsible for analyzing sales tax, consumer use tax and closed out corporate collection accounts to determine if the corporate officers or responsible parties can be held liable, effecting collections, and for recommending for discharge those accounts that are uncollectible. The incumbent, while working autonomously, informs the supervisor of complex and/or sensitive issues on assigned cases, acts as the lead person in cases leading to criminal prosecution on fraudulent and illegal operations, acts as an expert resource to journey level staff with responsibility under the various sales and use tax programs and provides administrative support to management and supervision. Meeting the job required training for this position may require overnight travel of one or more days. The position is located in a high-rise building. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. All applicants will be considered; however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority.
