Job Description:
Dispatcher Clerk-Caltrans. Ref. 12-3-166.

District 12 is accepting applications for a Dispatcher Clerk position within the Traffic Management Center, Irvine. To be considered you must have passed the examination for this classification, or have transfer eligibility based on current or past state civil service.

This position will be under the supervision of Caltrans Senior Transportation Engineer, Supervisor; in the Transportation Management Center (TMC). He/she will evaluate the nature of incoming calls, review and extract critical information to relay to field crews, the public and various agencies. Incumbent will need to learn to operate various communication oriented equipment; type at a speed of 40 words per minute; read maps quickly and accurately; communicate effectively at the level required for successful job performance; speak in a clear concise manner; learn to operate various communication oriented equipment; perform clerical work; follow directions; think and act quickly in emergencies; analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Incumbent is subject to reasonable suspicion testing. A duty statement is available upon request.

The TMC operates 24/7 and requires various working shifts to be able to respond to emergency situations. Overtime work may be required during weekend, nights and holidays.

* Special Requirements:

1. Applicants for positions in this class are required to pass a Department of Justice background check and drug screening test.

2. Provide a typing certificate to verify ability to type at a minimum of 40 words per minute.
