Job Description:
Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator II, the Business Taxes Compliance Specialist independently performs the more complex and difficult tax compliance and collection work. The incumbent acts as an expert resource to journey level staff with responsibilities including the following areas: 1032 Program, Voluntary Disclosure Program, Escrow Clearances, Security Requirements, 6015 Retailers, Use Tax Exemptions and Delinquencies. The incumbent independently conducts and follows-up on the more complex investigations leading to the registration of difficult accounts. Apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure registration of businesses identified with sufficient business presence in California to constitute nexus and the legal obligation to register and pay the Sales and Use Tax. Act as an expert on nexus laws and determine when registration is required on an out-of-state account. Work closely with other units, local, state and federal agencies as well as other representatives to resolve technical matters. The incumbent will also train employees and act as lead. Other functions as required. Meeting the training requirements for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights. Candidate must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted. The Business Taxes Compliance Specialist appointed to this position will be responsible for training and motivating staff. Describe your experience and skills in a leadership role. Include your experience as a lead person or trainer. 3. Describe your experience in working on standalone applications and databases and describe the nature of the work you performed in detail. 4. This position will be responsible for approving assignments in IRIS. Describe your experience in reviewing and approving or working in Assignment Control and describe the types of assignments you have worked.
