We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals seeking an Information Officer I (Specialist) position to join our team.
We have 2 vacancies in the following Program Area:
Under the direction of the Information Officer II (IO II), the Information Officer I (IO I) performs sensitive public relations activities that require independence of judgment and action. The IO I coordinates and interacts with the news media, the public, ethnic media, Administration communications officials, industry and consumer organizations and other stakeholders.
Under the direction of the Information Officer II, Regional Manager, Outreach and Media Relations Northern California (Bay Area), the incumbent makes presentations and performs outreach activities approved by the Regional Manager. Staffs outreach events, setting up information booths, disseminating information, answering questions about the Exchange, and providing support to designated partnerships. Works with outside vendors as needed.
Performing media relations work on behalf of the Exchange for the Region. Working in collaboration with the headquarters Office of Communications and Public Affairs, writes press releases, handles designated media calls, does TV interviews, and distributes information to key contacts in the region.
Assists with the planning and organization of the Northern California area Regional Outreach and Media Relations Office. This may include managing resources at a remote location, maintaining inventory of Exchange collateral, audio visual supplies, and other resources required to execute a regional program of public information and outreach. Assists the Office of Communications and Public Affairs with support for use of various traditional and social media, including newspapers, television, radio, and community-based publications, consistent with Exchange policy. Must be familiar with common and emerging social medial tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
Provides guidance to management on possible impact and reaction of news media and the public on Exchange decisions and activities. Works with technical program managers to address and resolve issues of concern. This may include audience identification, developing key messages, talking points, collection of feedback, and measuring the impact of outreach methods. Incumbent will be expected to incorporate the Exchange’s mission, vision and goals by translating technical terms into language that the media representatives and other non-technical stakeholders can understand. Performs other communication and outreach projects and duties as required and necessary to accomplish the work the Unit.
This position will require frequent travel in the San Francisco/Bay area and Northern California region; bilingual language skills desired but not required. Will be located in an affiliate office in the region.
Techniques of preparing, producing and disseminating information, utilizing all major media of communication.
Knowledge of principles and techniques of establishing and maintaining good relations with news media and other public groups.
Knowledge of California State government and principles of public administration.
