Working under direction from the Administrator of the Language Policy and Leadership Office and the Director of the English Learner Support Division, the Education Programs Consultant will carry out the following duties:
Administer activities and technical assistance associated with the Title III Limited English Proficient Student Program, the Title III Immigrant Student Program, and other programs administered by the unit.
Oversee the coordination and preparation of Bilingual Coordinators Network quarterly meetings.
Search for the most current research on English learners; develop extracts and literature reviews. Search and review second language acquisition research and standards for educating second language learners in other countries. Review, analyze, and synthesize research and standards in Spanish.
Translate documents into Spanish for the field.
Assist with state audits, federal audits and monitoring visits, including implementation of the Department’s response to findings.
Knowledge of state and federal statutes and issues for English learners and immigrant students
Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form
Ability to establish effective working relations, and to exercise tact, resourcefulness, and good judgment with all groups contacted in the work

Individuals who have eligibility for appointment to the above class (e.g., transfer, list, reinstatement). All applicants must clearly indicate the basis of their eligibility in the “Explanations” section on the Standard Application Form (Std 678). An individual who possesses a California education administration credential, or credential or life diploma of equivalent authorization, or a master’s or doctorate degree must attach a copy of that document to their application. Employment provisions as outlined by the Department of Personnel Administration's State Restriction of Appointments (SROA) policy will prevail. In addition, current or future executive orders relative to filling vacant positions may also affect this process. Applications will be screened and only the most qualified will be interviewed.
PLEASE NOTE: Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant will be removed from the eligibility list.
