Job Description:

Reporting to the Correctional Sergeant, Female Rehabilitative Community Correctional Center (FRCCC), Female Offender Programs and Services, the Correctional Officer (CO) will be responsible for the safety, security and operation of the 75 bed facility located in Bakersfield. The CO position will work with the public, contract staff, and other local agencies, and will be required to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. The CO will be required to implement gender specific treatment of the female offender and all goals of the FRCCC Program.

The program is currently recruiting for lateral transfers only. Promotional hires will not be considered at this time.

40% Responsible for the safety and security of the FRCCC facility, ensuring a safe environment for the female offender, contract staff and the community by conducting inspections of all areas of the FRCCC facility during assigned shifts, provide visual surveillance via closed circuit security television in the operations center of the facility, supervise inmates during recreation and maintain security in the kitchen, dining room and living areas of the FRCCC facility. Respond to incidents or emergency situations due to disruptive inmate behavior. Counsel female inmates regarding improper behavior, documenting the infractions of rules and regulations as appropriate. Remain watchful to prevent escapes or injuries to inmates, or employees. Protect facility property, maintain supplies and equipment. Perform CLETS clearances and perform DDPS data entry as required. Conduct frequent counts of all inmates housed at the FRCCC facility during assigned shifts.

35% Process all inmate visitors into the FRCCC facility, verify all visitors with proper picture identification, search for contraband when warranted, log all visitors in and out of the FRCCC facility, maintain visitor records and supervise visiting. Participate in random searches of the facility for contraband. Review on random basis incoming and outgoing mail in accordance with mail procedures. Remain diligent in reviewing all changes in Operational Procedures, Title 15, and DOM pertaining to the FRCCC facility. Process all facility inmate movement and transfers. Perform other correctional duties as required.

25% Provide training on gender responsive programs, services, and strategies, as well as, participate in In-Service Training mandatory documented 32 hours annually and On-the-Job Training assignments. General duties related to the administration of the FRCCC shall include, but not be limited to preparing responses to correspondence, developing program directives, attending meetings, serving as a liaison between field staff, headquarters staff, contractor staff, and local agencies.
