Job Description:
This position is with the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program (CBDMP) within the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division. Under the general direction of the CBDMP Public Health Medical Officer III and in collaboration with the Program Manager and the Research Scientist (RS) III, the RS I will perform data manipulation analyses using SAS statistical software. This position will respond to MCAH-approved requests for data from the public health, research, and medical communities and provide data for birth defects clusters or other public health concerns and SUPPORT all activities of the CBDMP Birth Defects Registry and CBDMP Prenatal Blood Bank Repository. Duties include cleaning birth defects data, analyzing birth defects data, performing quality control activities, completing all project documentation and supporting CBDMP Birth Defects Registry and CBDMP Prenatal Blood Bank Repository data projects. The RS I will analyze CBDMP Birth Defects Registry data by specific demographic variables, as directed for public health purposes, create documentation characterizing the datasets, conduct data linkages and complete quality control on all datasets relating to Birth Defects Registry data. This position will contribute to the annual Title V report, statewide Title V five-year needs assessment (5YNA) and other Title V related activities. The incumbent will work with all team members who will be inputting, analyzing and reviewing the data. This includes in-depth knowledge of the data and requires the ability to produce analyses to meet the requests of the project team. The incumbent must be proficient in the use of SAS Statistical Software (minimum 2 years of experience) and must have excellent analytic problem-solving skills, understand data processing procedures, be able to learn and handle large datasets and identify and correct data errors.
