Job Description:
Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator I and the general guidance of a Business Taxes Compliance Specialist, the Business Taxes Representative (BTR) in the Consumer Use Tax Section generates, analyzes and concludes, either by closing or billing, cases consisting of leads from sources such as DMV, HCD, USCG, FAA, County Assessor's records and U.S. Customs. The BTR should have general knowledge of relevant Use Tax Laws and Regulations as they pertain to vehicle, vessel, aircraft and customs programs. Special personal characteristics required to be successful in this position are, effective interpersonal relationship skills demonstrating utmost tact and good judgment, flexibility and willingness to adjust to changing assignments and priorities. Must be willing to do routine and detailed work and must be willing and able to communicate with hostile taxpayers either in person or in writing. Once trained, incumbent should be willing to provide training and participate in special projects while still maintaining normal workload assignments. The BTR should be flexible to a changing environment in an atmosphere that promotes communication and trust. Daily usage of a personal computer to maintain case activities, statistical records, issue billings and communicate via the Outlook program is a must. Travel required 25% of the time.
