Under the general direction of a Business Taxes Administrator II, the Business Taxes Specialist I acts as a technical expert on the most sensitive and complex audit and compliance cases handled by the unit. The incumbent also serves as an operational expert for the billing, analysis and return processing program administered by the Return Analysis Unit (RAU). This involves representing the unit on agency wide taskforces and acting as a liaison between the Unit and other Board Departments, Divisions, Sections and Units resolving return processing and workflow issues. The Business Taxes Specialist I will coordinate and review the work of professional staff and monitor system performance and work quality issues relating to the Unit’s day to day audit and compliance functions. Acts in the capacity of lead person (as described in BEAM Section 1420).
The position will be dedicated to a special project developing a mass refund process for a class action settlement and develop and deliver training to staff. Participates in the development of new processes, policies and procedures. Oversees system testing of new IRIS billing and adjustment screens, functions and reports. Monitors IRIS incidents and identifies highest priority items to management. Responsible for communicating critical technical and operational information to the Unit on a daily basis. All applicants will be considered however, SROA/Surplus will be given priority. The position is located in a high-rise building.
This position has wide contact with persons at all levels within the statewide organization in resolving the most complex technical issues pertaining to the billing, analysis, and return processing programs and the Sales and Use Tax Laws pertaining to those programs as they relate to administration and compliance functions. Performs special assignments and other duties as required.
