Job Description:
DUTIES:
This is a Limited Term Intermittent position and may work at a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.
The Emission Quality Assurance Section (ELQAS) is responsible for calibrating and certifying all equipment and instruments used to determine exhaust and evaporative emissions from motor vehicles at the Haagen-Smit Laboratory in El Monte and field locations. The ELQAS is seeking for a self-motivated and creative individual that can aide ELQAS staff in performing the quality assurance testing process. The successful candidate will assist in performing the quality assurance and quality control for the data generated, including data entry, processing paperwork, spreadsheet data, and assist in quality assurance of instrumentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, creating and maintaining a database, generating monthly Quality Assurance (QA) reports and writing technical documents as needed.
The Students will be in a learning capacity working with section staff in performing calibration and certification of exhaust and evaporative emission equipment; data processing, analysis and verification of data entries; performing calculation using established quality assurance procedures; designing, creating, and modifying databases tables, queries and reports; maintaining a Mircorsoft Access Database; generating QA monthly reports; performing inventory of supplies, specialty gases and maintaining the calibration/certification of specialty equipment for use in the daily QA work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and has the flexibility to work on a team or independently. The most competitive applicants would ideally possess technically and scientific knowledge relating to air pollution, emission controls, emission testing and good communications skills. Applicants must possess knowledge and experience working with SQL, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), programming with Visual Studio, and Window 7 is highly desirable. Other desired qualifications include strong organizational skills, self-starter, and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision within a team oriented environment. Any experience with vehicle/engine emissions, equipment automation and related components will be helpful. Good people skills and a desire to provide excellent support to section staff is a plus.
Enrollment in a college curriculum leading to a bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering is highly desirable.
