Job Description:
DUTIES:
This is a Limited Term Intermittent position and may work at a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year.
The Emission Inventory Development Section compiles and develops emission inventory databases, summaries, and tools to support emissions assessment needs in the areas of air quality planning, photochemical modeling, and project level assessment. Major projects include the development and refinement of a statewide criteria and toxic emission inventory database (CEIDARS), quality assurance and visualization of emission estimates, application of adjustment factors to estimate future emission trends, and streamlining of data input and output procedures from the emission inventory databases. The successful candidate will work in an entry, training level capacity, and will assist in development and quality assurance of base and future year emissions inventories as well as development of emission summary reports. Specific tasks may include assisting in the design of database queries to extract relevant information from the emission databases; development and automation of reports summarizing emission estimates including future emission trends; and working with staff to implement procedures which improve the quality, accessibility, and understanding of emission data stored in the emission inventory.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be highly motivated, have strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to understand technical and policy issues as they relate to emission inventories. The successful candidate should be familiar with the current technologies and software available to compile and summarize large datasets and demonstrate initiative in applying these technologies to ensure data integrity and accessibility. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team setting. Applicants with strong technical skills, including database (SQL), programming (PHP, Python, R), and data visualization (HTML, JavaScript, graphing APIs, Microsoft Excel) experience are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge in some or all of the following areas: emission inventories, statistics, GIS, Linux, quality assurance, mathematics, and basic air pollution chemistry.
