Job Description:
**IMPORTANT NOTICE** As required by the department's rules of conduct, all employees of the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) must be in compliance with the California revenue and taxation code. During the background investigation portion of the hiring process, FTB will review return information to verify California state income tax compliance. Any failure to comply with the California revenue and taxation code may prevent you from being hired at FTB. All applicants not currently employed with the Franchise Tax Board will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation. Under the close supervision of the Administrator I, and the technical direction of a lead person, you will be primarily responsible for applying the Revenue and Taxation Code, administrative regulations, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Personal Income Tax laws. You will work to maximize the collection of revenue by encouraging tax-filing compliance, provide telephone customer service and review and respond to correspondence on FAN cases. Work with various areas of the department on FAN compliance issues such as legal.


  • Knowledge of Personal Income Tax (PIT) laws, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and/or experience using FTB systems such as TI, ARCS, DMV, Lexis, INC, BOE, PAWS
  • Knowledge of Professional Audit System Section (PASS)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to shift priorities and/or workloads to meet operational needs
  • Ability to utilize good judgment, and take effective actions
  • Patience, excellent attendance, and a team player
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Word and Excel

Current state employees with status in the above classification or lateral transfers from an equivalent class, former state employees who can reinstate into this class or persons who are reachable on a current employment list for this classification. A training and development assignment (T & D) will also be considered. All appointments are subject to SROA/Surplus hiring provisions.
