High Desert State Prison is currently canvassing to compile a list of Substitute Teachers to contact when absences occur. Hourly rate is $29.62 per hour. Substitute Teachers will not be required to take an examination but must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQ’s). The MQ’s are that you must possess a valid multiple subject or single subject (or equivalent) credential, or multiple subject or single subject emergency credential. Teachers possessing only an “adult” or a “designated subject” credential will not be eligible for hire. Duties: Must maintain a valid, current, teaching credential appropriate for their assigned classification. Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the Education program; help prepare persons committed to State Correctional Facilities to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in academic subjects and by helping them develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests. Teachers give both individual and group instruction and in many instances participate as members of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Teachers have a responsibility for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in time of emergencies. Will play an important role in the total education, treatment, and training process as well as in teaching the skills which will enable the individual to seek occupational opportunities.
