Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I, this position is responsible for providing complex, technical support to Staff Counsel who are litigating a variety of legal disputes for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Office of Legal Affairs, in state and federal court, and before administrative agencies. This position requires good judgment, knowledge of jurisdictional court rules, and the ability to act independently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING (other duties may be assigned): Prepare and process pleadings, briefs, trial briefs, and other litigation documents, correspondence and memoranda through dictation and handwritten documentation from staff counsel. The processing of these documents includes faxing, copying and mailing. Setting up and maintaining case files and follow-up records, developing and maintaining a calendaring system and file management system. Phone calls with other attorneys and their support staff to calendar hearings and meetings, arrange for service of process, review and discuss local rules with court clerks to ensure proper filings, meeting deadlines. Answering, screening and referring incoming telephone calls.
Scheduling meetings, making room arrangements and notifying participants, and other duties as required.
