Under the general direction of a Division of Adult Parole Operations Administrator, the Parole Agent III (PAIII) manages the day-to-day operation of the Interstate Compact Unit and fills the national role of California Interstate’s Deputy Compact Administrator (DCA). The PA III directly supervises 3 PA II s, Parole Agent I, a Supervising Program Technician I, a Staff Services Analyst and a Program Technician III. This position is responsible for the management of three separate programs as follows: 1) Routing, processing and approving incoming and outgoing Interstate referrals for adult parole and probation offenders - 2) Supervising California parolees out-of-state and - 3) Extraditing inmates and parolees back to California. Acts as the principle liaison with other state Compact officials, handles appeals of Interstate Compact decisions and negotiates for special handling of 'problem' or special interest cases. In the absence of or along with the Compact Administrator, represents the State of California at Regional and National Interstate Compact functions. Trains unit staff, evaluates performance and takes or recommends disciplinary action when necessary. Conducts, in the absence of the Parole Agent II, planning conferences with Parole Agents regarding investigations and casework decisions for parolees out-of-state. Ensure appropriate reports to the Board of Parole Hearings are submitted within mandatory time frames. Collects and analyzes data on unit performance, parolee performance and paroling authority actions.
