Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Lead Grounds Keeper (CF) will perform general grounds maintenance work. To maintain order, monitor, instruct, lead and/or supervise a ward labor crew to help maintain the facility grounds and residential grounds.
The duties of supervising wards engaged in planting, watering, cultivating, maintaining flower beds, shrubs, trees and mowing lawn. Prevent escapes and/or injuries by these persons to themselves or to others and to property. Maintain security of working area, work materials, inspects premises and search wards for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs.
In general grounds maintenance cultivates plants, water and sprays ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, flowers and propagates cutting. Designs flower beds and borders, prepares and treats soil for planting, grafts plants, spades, fertilizes flower beds, lawn and repairs of sprinkle system.
Keep grounds free from plant diseases and pests. Care for ornamental flowers and plants in State buildings. Participate in a preventive maintenance program that will include keeping records of jobs and cost estimates, maintenance of tools and equipment and preparation of simple reports.
