The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is recruiting for an Environmental Planner-Architectural Historian (entry or associate level) to work in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area. District 4 covers nine counties with a vibrant cultural history and diverse topography.

Working under the direction of a Senior Environmental Planner, this job entails: preparation of written technical reports for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other applicable state and federal regulations; historical research to identify historic properties; analysis of effects of transportation projects on historic properties to avoid or minimize impacts; coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office, preservation advocacy groups and individuals; and review of reports for technical competence and conclusions.

All methods of appointment will be considered (e.g. list appointment, transfer, re-instatement, surplus, SROA, re-employment, Training & Development assignment, etc.). All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the classification in order to be eligible for appointment to the position.
