The Position: The Office of the Secretary of State (SOS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a permanent, full-time Systems Software Specialist I (Technical) position in the Information Technology Division, Customer Support/Data Guidance Unit.
Under the general direction of the Data Processing Manager II, the incumbent is a member of the Information Technology Division (ITD) Help Desk Support team. Specific Duties are:
The incumbent will define the standards for software deployment, patch management, image creation, and remote access.
Responsible for deploying software updates, computer patching and software management.
Prepare and execute detailed test plans for new releases software products.
Creates scripts and custom installer transforms for software deployment
Install, configure and support office hardware and software products.
Install, configure, modify, upgrade and maintain the department’s software distribution and asset-management systems, including: Dell KACE (Kbox) and Bomgar appliances and applications.
Creates image based deployments.
Develop standards and criteria for the installation, operation and management of desktop applications.
Troubleshoot the more complex problems.
Perform detailed analysis of new releases of the agency standard software products prior to installation in our environment.
Creates inventory reports for license verification.
Evaluate new hardware and software applications and make recommendations for procurement.
Prepare procurement documents for products and services.
Ability to: Develop detailed program specifications; analyze data and situations, reason logically and creatively, identify problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop effective solutions; apply creative thinking in the design and development of methods of processing information with information technology systems; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; work under pressure; strong written and oral communication skills; prepare effective reports and coordinate the activities of technical personnel.
Who May Apply: Applicants must have current transfer, list or reinstatement eligibility for permanent, full-time appointment to the Systems Software Specialist I (Technical) classification. Appointment will be made in accordance with State Restriction of Appointment (SROA) provisions.
