Job Description & Additional Information
The Associate Transportation Planner in the System Planning Branch is a journey level position that handles the most complex and highest level system planning staff work. The position may serve in a lead capacity for some assignments, as a team member on other assignments, and in a support role for other assignments. The incumbent works with Division staff and management, other divisions, Districts, Department management, Transportation Agency, partner agencies, advocacy groups, stakeholders, and the public. Specific assignments vary as program needs fluctuate and the office responds to policy and legal requirements. Assignments may have very short deadlines, such as same-day completion, to year-long efforts, such as guidance updates and complex system studies. Under the general direction of the Chief, System Planning Branch, the incumbent will lead or provide assistance in the development, review, analysis and implementation of programs, directives, guidance, and performance measurement with regards to statewide System Planning Program activities and products including Transportation Concept Reports (TCR), District System Management Plans (DSMP), Corridor System Management Plans (CSMP), Transportation System Analysis and Evaluations (TSAE) and Interregional Transportation Strategic Plan (ITSP). These activities may require the incumbent to develop PowerPoint presentations, correspondence, fact sheets and technical analysis. The incumbent will work closely with District planning staff and Headquarters Divisions including but not limited to Traffic Operations, Mass Transit, Research Innovation and System Preservation, Programming, Environmental, Executive Offices, Legislative Affairs, Public Information Office, and the California Transportation Commission. The incumbent may represent the System Planning Branch on a variety advisory and technical groups, make presentations at seminars and technical advisory committees, and prepare written reports and analysis for a variety of audiences.
