We have tested many Internet access systems (WEB Browsers - Internet
Service Providers) in an attempt to assure that you will be able to
complete the exam successfully. This page will document all known problems
with Browser-Provider systems and this exam system. You will also be able
to test your system using this page to make sure it is operating properly.
Many of the questions in this exam have the default value set to Zero or
None to prevent problems with our processing programs. You should change
the value in a field, or which radio button is checked, as appropriate to
your education and experience. DO NOT leave any of the answer fields
blank, or you will receive a system error message and will not be able to
continue.
KNOWN WEB-BROWSER PROBLEMS:
-
The Lynx Web browser may not show the first entry in a series
of single space entry points until you move to the second entry
point. Be careful not to enter more than one character in each
single-entry (Yes or No) field.
- Pressing the keyboard ENTER key when using Mosaic, Microsoft
Internet Explorer, or
the Compuserve Internet browsers operates as a SUBMIT button.
If you accidently hit the enter key on your computer keyboard
using any of these
browsers in the middle of an exam page, you will be submitting
that page incomplete. You may use the BACK button on your browser
to go back and complete the page
properly and resubmit without penalty. Our processing program
will use the last of each page you submit, as long as it is
submitted during the same session.
- Some Internet Service Providers (ISP's)
get very busy during certain times of the day and cannot process
your submissions in a timely manner. If you get a message when
submitting an answer sheet that our server cannot be found or
does not answer, it is probably because your ISP is not relaying
your answers or our server's confirmation in a timely fashion.
This has been a particular problem with America Online (AOL).
Please do not continue to resubmit your answer sheet if this
occurs. Exit your system, and try and take the exam at some
other time. You will not be penalized if this occurs.
- On all Web browsers, do NOT use the ENTER key on your keyboard
to move from one entry point to the next. Use the TAB key or your
mouse button. The ENTER key may act as a SUBMIT button.
- Some web browsers allow you to enter more characters in a
field than the space provided. In this examination, do NOT enter more
characters in a space than instructed.
Problems with Internet systems beyond the control of the applicant:
We recognize that problems may occur with Internet systems while
an applicant is in the middle of taking this examination. While resubmission
of pages during one session, or restarting an incomplete
examination at a later time is acceptable, submitting more than one
completed examination is cause for disqualification. If you encounter
problems that you cannot resolve, please call the State Personnel Board
Service Center at (916) 653-1705 option #5.
TEST YOUR WEB BROWSER HERE!
In taking the examination, you will be asked to fill in entries on a form, and
then submit that form to our Internet Server. Some of the entries, like your
name, will be 2 - 20 spaces long, and many of the "Yes" or "No" entries will
be a clickable radio button. To test your system, put an entry in both areas
below, click on the SUBMIT button, and you should receive a reply from our
Internet Server repeating back to you the entries you submitted. This system
will accept both upper and lower case letters. All entries will be converted
to upper case by the system.
IF YOU DO NOT GET A REPLY FROM OUR SERVER THAT
YOUR ENTRY WAS RECEIVED AND PROCESSED, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTINUE WITH THE
EXAMINATION ON THAT BROWSER-PROVIDER SYSTEM!!!
